The History:
The Ridge Casino CSI supported Middelburg Care Village and Ethembeni Street Children as our main social responsibility projects in 2007. Early in 2007 the children expressed their need for soccer tournaments and kits. As these kids can not take part in school soccer due to logistical and financial constraints, The Ridge took their wish to heart.
Due to a limited budget we could not purchase these kids full soccer kits. After some research we found that Altech Autopage Cellular CSI project is to give soccer kits to soccer enthusiasts. We approached them and they agreed to sponsor 10 kits on condition we host a soccer festival. Hence the birth of The Ridge Charity Soccer day on the 2nd September 2007.
This day was a huge success and therefore we decided to make this soccer festival an annual event. The main purpose of this is to give our charity children the opportunity to take part in a formal sporting event, something they never get to do. The ripple effect due to this event goes through the community and touches the lives of almost 650 children up to date.
This year we are hosting The Ridge 4th Annual Charity Soccer day and the Middelburg Care Village as well as the local charity soccer club for street children, Liverpool Soccer Club, will be our charity guests. This year we anticipate to touch 300 children.
Making 2010 memorable in more than one way
- 6 a side soccer will be played on 4 fields.
- 16 schools will take part (each school team will devide in 2) and then we have 32 teams.
- Each “team” will represent a country in the world cup, creating our own “World Cup Tournament in one day”.
The following prizes are up for grabs …
- The 2nd, 3rd and 4th team will receive one set of six-a-side soccer goal posts with a soccer ball and fox whistle (used on the day).
- One team will win a sport bag for each team member, sponsored by The Ridge Casino.
- One team will win for each team member a Ten Pin Bowling game and 10 Magic Co. tokens, sponsored by Magic Co. The Ridge.
- 40 Kuduzelas are up for grabs, sponsored by First National Bank.
- Prizes for Man of the tournament, Goal Keeper of the tournament and Goal Scorer of the tournament.
And a few more surprises.
The winning team:
- The winning team will win a one night stay in the NEW Stay Easy Hotel, B&B.
- Each member of the winning team will receive a movie ticket with popcorn to use on the night of their hotel stay, compliments of The Ridge Movies.
- The winning team will receive one set of six-a-side soccer goal posts with a soccer ball and fox whistle (used on the day).
- The winning school will receive a trophy, sponsored by Shufflemaster.
