Entrepreneurial Day - April 2009

On the 22nd April 2009 The Ridge Casino and Entertainment Resort hosted an Entrepreneurial day at the Middelburg Care Village for the 85 children housed there. With the skilful help of a teacher at Kragbron Primary, the children were introduced to the world of an entrepreneur. They taught the children about drawing up a business plan and how to draw up an income and expense statement. The children were shown ideas of what can be made and how to present them to make sure the buyers will buy their items. The Ridge will assist the children to make their items and host a "Market Day" for them on the 16th June 2009. The children hung onto every word that passed from the teacher ensuring this day was a huge success.

The Ridge is looking forward to discovering the entrepreneurs amongst these children.

Bending down to stand tall - March 2009

The children at the Middelburg Care Village have come to look forward to the monthly visits from The Ridge Staff Members and March was no different with The Ridge ensuring each child had a personal hygiene pack for the month and spoiling those children who celebrated their birthdays in March with a gift. And as everyone knows, who wants to celebrate their birthday alone - so everyone enjoyed some yummy cupcakes! An enormous thank you to Clicks at the Highveld Mall who made a very generous donation of household items to Middelburg Care Village. The Ridge aims to ensure that each house at the Middelburg Care Village turns into a home this year, and remember that no man stands as tall as when you bend down to help a child!

The Ridge Helps Mans Best Friend - February 2009

They protect you, play with the kids, adore you and ensure you have a wagging tail to come home to everyday! What would life be without pets? As part of The Ridge's strategy to uplift the community, we would also like to ensure that man¦s best friend is well taken care of when they are lost or abandoned. During February The Ridge identified a strong need at the Middelburg SPCA and donated R20 000 towards the upgrading of their kennels. Thus ensuring a warm and safe place for our furry friends.

The Ridge Spoils Middleburg Care Village - February 2009

February is the month of love and giving and The Ridge ensured this message was carried out at Middelburg Care Village. The children at the Middelburg Care Village hold a special place in the hearts of The Ridge staff, with this month showcasing birthday delights, hygiene pack, valentines gifts, R19 000 worth of furnisher and the scholarship program with IT support. Wow, what a mouthful for such a short month!! On the stormy afternoon of the 10th of February, The Ridge paid a visit to the Middelburg Care Village to hand out some birthday gifts and cupcakes, made especially by The Ridge staff. Their monthly hygiene packs were also handed out to them with little extra special valentine¦s chocolates. Middelburg Care Village has also expanded by opening another house and The Ridge ensured that their basic furnishing needs were met with R19 000 worth of furnisher. The Ridge is also extremely proud of the scholarship program that they have started with 11 (shining stars÷ at MCV. Through this we will give them the opportunities to ensure a better, brighter future. The IT department at The Ridge has also sponsored and installed a PC at MCV and will be giving the children basic PC training once a week.

Back to School - January 2009

The first day at school is both an exciting and intimidating day for all! During January The Ridge tried to make that day extra special for the children at Middelburg Care Village with personal hygiene packs, stationery hampers and school clothing for all 85 children. Not only did The Ridge ensure the above basic needs for the children was met, they also kick-started the scholarship program at the Middelburg Care Village. Through this scholarship program The Ridge has identified (shining stars÷ and aims to ensure they reach their highest potential at school. Through this we hope to expand their options in life and ensure they hit the road to success.

And just too add that extra special moment to January; The Ridge also gave each child that celebrated their birthdays in January a gift and yummy chocolate cake for all!
