Country Legends @ The Ridge
Country Legends Live at The Ridge

Put on your dancing shoes for a legendary, one
night only performance by SA’s Country Legends

SA’s favourite Country Legends, including Clive Bruce, Barbara Ray, Bobby Angel, Billy Forrest, Sally Vaughn, and the Rodeo Girls, will dazzle country-music fans with a toe-tapping, body-swaying one-night only performance at The Ridge on the 26th of November 2011.

This will be the first time this well-known group of country music stars is performing at The Ridge. Country Legends will sign autographs for fans outside Baxters Lounge after the show. The Ridge will also run a competition for the Best-dressed Country and Western couple, with a super getaway package to be won.

“Country music lovers are in for a real treat when Country Legends perform at The Ridge in November. These performers are well-known for their dynamic stage presence and ability to get the crowd up, dancing and singing along.

“They will be appearing for just one night and given that these Country Legends are in high demand, we’re not sure when we will be able to get them back here again. So, take the chance and join us for this musical spectacular,” encourages General Manager at The Ridge, Maureen Kivits.

The show takes place in the giant marquee at The Ridge Events Park. Tickets will be sold at The Ridge Club Festival Desk and through Computicket at R70 per ticket per person. Food and drinks will be on sale at the venue.

The casino and adjacent StayEasy Hotel have also put together a special “Show and Stay” package for people wanting to stay over after the event. For R940 (per couple), you can watch the show, sleep over in a comfortable room and enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel the next morning.

Clive Bruce has performed for over 40 years. One of his first recordings “Sally Sunshine” charted high on both the SA Hit Parade, and the popular L.M. Radio Hit Parade. Some of the TV shows he has appeared in include Noot vir Noot, Reis & Suitcase, Jakkals Jol, Rewind, Sing Country, Gentle on my Mind, and Sounds Country.

Barbara Ray has earned the name, “The Queen of Country”, because she’s had more country hits than any other South African female country artist. Her biggest hits include “I Don’t Wanna Play House”, “Divorce “and “Way Down In New Orleans”, which earned her a Double Platinum Award. She is also a multi-SARI Award winner who has been a favourite with country music fans across the country for many years.

Bobby Angel is generally regarded as the “King of Country” in South Africa. He has many hits to his credit and his walls are lined with Gold and Platinum” discs for songs like, “You Ask Me To”, “Green Eyed Angel”, “Livin On Love” and “Gentle On My Mind. He has also received many awards, including two coveted SARI Awards for “Best Country Artist”. Three years ago Bobby appeared at the very prestigious London Palladium with Steve Hofmeyr and Carike Keuzenkamp.

Billy Forrest has been a leader in South African pop and country music since his first hit “Hello Operator”, back in December 1964. He is ranked by a leading website as having had the most top-twenty hits (18) in the history of South African pop music. His hits include “500 Miles”, “Still”, “She Can’t Say That Anymore”, “Wings Of A Dove” and his all-time best-seller, “Tiny Bubbles”. He also produced the very successful music from IPI-TOMBI back in 1973 and received SARI Awards in 1965 and 1966.

Sally Vaughn is affectionately known as “Mama Country” and has been at the forefront of live country shows for more than three decades. She has received standing ovations on two occasions in Nashville, Tennessee, for her stunning rendition of her biggest ever hit, “The American Trilogy”. This song has been her most successful ever and Sally still receives standing ovations all over South Africa for it. Sally was also presented with two SARI Awards during her illustrious career.

The Rodeo Girls have been thrilling South African audiences for the past 12 years. Despite periodic changes in personnel, they have managed to maintain an exceptionally high and professional standard. They have performed across the length and breadth of South Africa but their greatest moment happened in Nashville in the USA, where their shows all ended with standing ovations. The Rodeo Girls have performed with all of the leading South African Country Legends and appeal to all ages.
